Video Installation X-it 2004
Form
The work X-it (2004) is an installation piece, consisting of 2 video projections. There is no audio with the projections.the work is a record of material excreted during Salmonella Poisoning. The work moves towards creating an internal recognition space as viewers are presented with the inner content of a sick corporeal body, sensing their own internal existence. Given the content some viewers may find the work uncomfortable.
Process
The work was created from images taken during a period in Hospital, when at one point the body organs began to shut down. My thanks to the medics for their support and response to my request for records. Two identical videos were played side by side in ArtSway, recordings are played out of sync creating changing sets of visual tensions and rhythms, referencing the internal workings of a struggling living corporeal body.
Context
The work was a development out of the collection of material from my own body, paralleling and referencing medical interventions to my body which in turn opened an increasing awareness of life/death of inside /outside and of our human/posthuman existence. The installation gave access to a sense of inner structure, space and activity in life.
