Art DOES Matter
Web site.. working on it. I saw this from Joseph Young. My position is that Art Schools are (were) the last stand for free thinking. They are being eroded and formalised in the way Foulcault decried. Once they were a place were free thinkers could explore their identities as well as developing their own visual language. Now its jumping though hoops. They were also a place to find human ness, what I mean by this is that fellow students noticed each other and helped each other in a caring human way.
PIRG shows that this approach is still alive, that from Post Doctorates to current PhD and MA students, when given the space, express a continued desire for this being human approach. Not the rigid over the top musle testing academic language that is beyond those other than the speaker. It is possible to be rigorous without the trappings. Anyway, see what you think about Joseph Young
